Farnham Golf Club has welcomed three new captains.

Dick Turpin is the men’s captain for 2019, Janet Gosden the ladies’ captain, while Scott Barham will fly the flag for the club’s juniors.

The trio were welcomed at The Sands with the traditional guard of honour by past captains.

Last year’s club captains then putted out on the 18th green of the beautiful heathland course on the outskirts of Farnham before the new incumbents sent their drives away down the par five first hole.

Retired banker Dick, the 100th captain of a club which was formed in 1896, has been a member for 30 years having moved to The Sands from Hertfordshire.

Sporty Janet, a retired accountant from Rowledge who also plays tennis and squash, has been a member at Farnham for 19 years.

And Godalming College student Scott, who his studying for his A-Levels, has been an active member of the club’s junior section for the past two years, representing Farnham in regional and county competitions.

The chosen charity of this year’s new captains is the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.
