HINDHEAD Golf Club’s lady captain, Karen Hawkins, could not have chosen a more appropriate theme for her Captain’s Day than ‘Colours of the Caribbean’.
As temperatures soared into the mid-30s, it did indeed feel like the Caribbean rather than the Surrey countryside.
In keeping with the theme, lady members arrived in an array of Caribbean-style coloured clothes, hats and flower garlands, but the parrot hat worn by Jo Hughes-Chamberlain was by far the most impressive.
The format was best two scores from teams of three, with a number of challenges along the way: unusual tee and pin positions to earn extra stableford points and the odd palm tree and parrot, to say nothing of rum punches and reggae at the halfway hut. A suitably Caribbean lunch ended the day, along with a very English Pimms.
There was a serious point to the day and £495 was raised for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
