FARNHAM Golf Club were fortunate with the weather at their annual Charity Pro-Am, but there was no lucky winner of the new car up for grabs if one of the 129 amateurs had recorded a hole-in-one at the par-3 third.

Each team comprised a professional and three amateurs, with the best two scores counting for the team prizes. The first prize was an electric trolley for each amateur.

A separate competition for the professionals had a top prize of £1,200.

Forty-three teams took part and there was a special buzz around the third hole when the mouth-watering prize was revealed.

A few came near to winning the coveted top-of-the-range Honda Jazz, underwritten by sponsors RM?Carpets, but it was still there at the end of play.

Only four professionals were under par all day and the winners were tied with 69 (-3). They were Chris Gane (Silvermere) and Scott Stevens (Ridge Golf Club) who picked up their split of first and second place monies.

Gane has won the Pro-Am twice in the last three years and only didn’t play in 2015 due to qualifying for the PGA Championship.

The team prize went to Westerham Financial and their professional Lee Cooper (Tilgate Forest GC) with a score of 129 (-15).

Once again, Farnham were well represented in the prizes. Three home teams featured in the top eight, with Chris Cobbett and Dave Young faring the best in third place.

Alan Wheatley was in the frame with an eighth place finish with his team of Check Pengilly, Bill Talbot and home pro Luke Bone.

The golf course was in superb condition for this flagship event which has run successfully for many years, thanks mainly to the tireless efforts of Dick Molden, chairman of the Pro-Am committee and founder of RM Carpets.

Club captain Alan Wheatley, whose chosen charity is The Rainbow Trust, thanked all those who had helped make the event run smoothly and especially the main sponsors, RM Carpets Ltd, and the many other firms who entered teams. It all resulted in nearly £6,000 being raised for The Rainbow Trust.

Managing directors Anthony Andrews and Andrew Brown said RM Carpets were only too pleased to have the company’s name linked to such a worthwhile cause.
