PAUL Owen made a late run on the outside to win Cowdray Park Seniors’ Captain’s Prize competition.
The fourth and final round took place on a fine day, with many players in contention and calculating what they had to do to pass Dave Lucking on 105 points.
After four rounds have been completed, a player can drop his lowest score, which can mean wholesale changes at the top of the leaderboard.
Lucking failed to improve on his lowest score of 33, while second-placed Chris Hutchings was away and Phil Singer, third, also faltered.
Terry Adsett replaced his lowest score of 25 with his final 33 points and was the man to beat with a total of 108.
Late in the day, Paul Owen returned 41 points for a final score of 108, enough to beat Adsett on countback and claim the coveted Captain’s Prize. Owen also won the nearest-the-pin on the 18th prize. On the same hole, John Durrell chipped in from over 70 yards to record a birdie two.
Pairs scores: 1st, John Hall & John Durrell (76); 2nd, John Newman & Paul Owen (74); 3rd, Dave Tilley & Robin Phillips (66).

Cowdray Seniors’ February Stableford was played in ideal conditions for winter, yet the scoring was surprisingly low, with less than half the field scoring more than 30 points, while only Frank Cheevers achieved a two.
