COWDRAY Park sprung a surprise in the Surrey & West Sussex Winter League by winning their home match against runaway leaders Hankley Common.

Cowdray’s 3-1 victory thus reversed their earlier away defeat. And it was so nearly 4-0 to the home side, Hankley edging home in the final match by 2&1.

Dave Lucking, the section’s lowest handicapper, returned 38 points, despite not having scored on the first hole, to win round two of Cowdray Seniors’ Captain’s Prize competition.

Second place went to Brian Carpenter on 37 points, while new member Ian Gunn was third with 35, on count-back from single-handicapper Paul Owen.

The pairing of Gunn and Lucking claimed the day’s prize with a combined 73 points.
