HASLEMERE Border AC ladies defied the torrential downpours last Thursday to compete in the Southern Multisport 10K at Cowdray Park estate, starting and finishing at the Ruins.
Philomel Pike finished an excellent second overall in a time of 47mins 02secs. She was followed home by Tina Laing (1-05-52), Lucy Pennant (1-11-08), Sarah Pennant (1-14-15), Karen Sinclair (1-14-46), Ann Varnes (1-14-47) and Debbie Parry (1-34-56).
Border’s John Dickinson had another great day when competing in the British Masters Pentathlon Championships in Oxford.
Dickinson was apprehensive as the five events included two of his weaker disciplines – discus and javelin – but he excelled and produced five season’s bests to win the bronze medal – only 20 points away from silver.
A Haslemere Border team ran the 28th Worthing 10K race on Sunday and first man to finish the flat, seafront course was Marco De Caprio in 45mins 27secs.
With coach Sarah Barnett pacing the course, Caren Pearson recorded 48-46 and Rebecca Connor managed 1-11-20
Clair Green and Andy Wareham entered the Royal Windsor River Trail 10k race along river paths. After a congested first mile, Wareham finished in 1hr 2mins, with Green just two minutes behind.
• Haslemere Border were well represented at the London Vitality 10,000, held on the recent bank holiday, with Mo Farah and Aldershot, Farnham & District athlete Steph Twell taking top honours in the men’s and women’s races.
Haslemere times were: Steve King 50-51, Andy Wareham, Clair Green both 55-06, Sarah Barnett 57-24, Seamus Geohegan 57-47.
