THE floodgates certainly opened at the Memorial Ground in Farnham on Tuesday – but sadly it wasn’t raining goals!
Persistent heavy rain which deluged the south all day inevitably took its toll on the evening’s football fixtures.
Farnham Town, fresh from their FA Vase heroics last Saturday, were unable to maintain their momentum in the quest for league points as their planned Combined Counties League Premier Division clash with Westfield was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
The same fate befell Alresford Town, who were due to take on Andover Town in the Premier Division of the Sydenhams Wessex League.
The struggling Magpies didn’t have a game last weekend and must now wait until this Saturday to face Verwood Town away in an attempt to wash away the memories of their 7-1 battering at the hands of Sholing the previous week.
And Badshot Lea’s home game against Fleet Spurs in the first round of the Aldershot Senior Cup was also washed out on Tuesday night. On Saturday, Badshot Lea host Horley Town in the Premier Division of the Combined Counties League (kick-off 3pm).
