THE mayor of Farnham has given his seal of approval to a sports club’s return to the town’s Memorial Hall.

David Attfield was on hand to welcome the return of Farnham Karate Club to its original venue after three decades away.

The club’s previous venue, The Gostrey Club in Brightwells, has now been demolished as part of the East Street project.

Mr Attfield was joined at the revamped Memorial Hall by Karate Federation president Sir Brian Hayes (7th Dan) and Sensei Barry Wilkinson (8th Dan), the founder of Farnham Karate Club.

The mayor witnessed a training session at the hall, where many karate students have earned their black belts since the club was formed in 1973.

And the club is keen to continue the legacy and welcomes new members. Adults and teens meet on Wednesdays from 8pm-9pm while sessions are also held at 40 Degreez, behind Farnham Sports Centre, on Saturdays from 10am-11am.
