LIZZIE Allen of Petersfield has won a silver and double bronze at the Down Syndrome World Swimming Championships.

Fourteen-year-old Lizzie did both her country and Alton & District Swimming Club proud on the world stage after travelling to Nova Scotia in Canada to represent Great Britain in the ninth edition of these championships which took place over seven days.

Competing with 200 swimmers from 25 nations, she returned home with two bronze medals and a silver, helping GB to secure second place overall.

Australia were the overall winners, with Italy in third place.

“Representing Great Britain was amazing and it was fantastic competing against swimmers from around the world,” said Lizzie. “My next big event will be the Europeans, and I’m aiming for gold.”

Her coach, Robin Nettlebrook, added:?“With Lizzie’s commitment and determination, she certainly deserves this success.”
