SOUTH Wales Warriors 30, Farnham Knights 28 (British American Football Premier Div). The Knights just can’t get a break – not the right sort, anyway.

Having lost recently by one point to Bristol Aztecs, they went down to the Warriors by a mere two points. More importantly, they lost quarterbacks Oli De Ruyter (knee) and Jacob Nunnerley (broken leg) to season-ending injuries.

Things started so well for the Knights when Aaron Sekwalor threw a half-back pass for a stunning 54yd catch and run to Stealy-J Wills. Jacob Nunnerley ran in the 2-point conversion and Farnham led 8-0.

The home team found their offensive feet in the second quarter and scored two touchdowns to lead 12-8 after both conversion attempts were blocked.

Back came the Knights and De Ruyter found Wills for his second touchdown.

The Warriors led 18-14 at half-time, but Farnham continued their aerial attack in the second half and Wills equalled the club record with ten receptions. De Ruyter engineered a drive and Scott Spearink followed some crushing blocks to put the Knights back in front, 22-18.

The Welsh team dug deep and regained the advantage, while Farnham had the misfortune to lose first De Ruyter and then replacement QB Nunnerley when he was hit late out of bounds and broke his leg as a result. The resulting penalty was no real consolation, but Sekwalor narrowed the deficit to 28-30 as Knights powered down the field to his 15yd scoring run.

Farnham have a high success rate on 2-point conversions, but too many regulars were unavailable and the ball was fumbled and recovered by Warriors who then ran down the clock to secure the win.
