HASLEMERE II 8, HAVANT III 2

IT was a good day for Haslemere in matches against the mighty Havant club.

The men’s 1st and 2nd XIs won their matches and although the 3rd XI lost (5-2), the ladies 1st XI returned 2-1 winners from their match at Havant.

The biggest winners were the 2nd XI who put eight goals past Havant thirds in Hampshire 1.

Haslemere had their best start to a game this season. After just 10 minutes, Matt Hemming and Sanjay Appan had each calmly finished free-flowing moves on the counter.

Havant pulled one back, but the late-arriving Jacob Hall replaced the sin- binned Appan and scored with his third touch of the ball – a firm strike from the top of the D.

The visitors replied with their second goal, but Haslemere regrouped and with Ali McGregor and Ollie Bamber controlling the centre of the park, began to dominate.

Hemming scored again and then skipper Charlie Millsom struck to make it 5-2 at the break.

On the restart, Haslemere put together one of their finest halves of hockey. Another fine strike by Hall and two more goals for Millsom was due reward for Haslemere’s sparkling performance as they notched up a third victory in a row.
