GILLINGHAM 1,

ALDERSHOT TOWN 0

PROMOTION-chasing Gillingham played most of the second half with 10 men, but Danny Jackman's goal soon after the interval proved enough to seal three points on Monday and complete a lean holiday period for Aldershot – one point from two games and the Boxing Day match abandoned due to a floodlight failure.

Defender Joe Martin, son of former West Ham player Alvin Martin, was sent off for two bookable offences with 29 minutes to go, leaving Andy Hessenthaler' team to play with their backs to the wall as Aldershot tried to force their way back into the game.

It was the perfect response by Gillingham to their defeat to Dagenham on Friday, putting them up to sixth in the table.
