MATT Paterson came off the bench to score a precious winner for 10-man Aldershot against promotion-hunting Braintree on Tuesday.

It secured back-to-back victories for Andy Scott's men and lifted them to fourth from bottom in the Conference, having started the season with a ten-point deduction.

Before Saturday's 5-1 rout of Southport, the Shots had leaked eight goals in two games and taken only one point from a possible 12.

So this was a timely boost to morale, especially as Aldershot face two weeks without league action.
