Members of the Petersfield-based Sky Surfing Club have reflected on their paragliding and hang gliding achievements of the past year at the club’s annual prize-giving event at the West Meon Sports Pavilion.

Chairman Jim Whitney led proceedings.

He said: “The evening kicked off with an excellent meal provided by hosts Rory and Mary Edwards and was followed by a fascinating talk given by Stephen Saunders, a local balloon pilot from Hindhead. Stephen is a lorry driver by trade and is quite open about being an amputee, having written the book The Amputated Trucker. He gave a colourful account of some of his many adventures.”

The talk was followed by the presentation of cups and trophies.

In paragliding the cross country distances first prize went to Steve Newcombe, with Ralph Mason second and Russell Winters third. Winters was also the most improved pilot.

The furthest out and return distance prize went to Robin Houghton, the novice cross country award went to Andrew Ruff and the rooster award went to Henry Saunders.

In hang gliding, the cross country distances first prize went to Tim King, with Ricardo Da Costa second and Grant Crossingham third.
