Farnham Rugby Club’s sportsman’s lunch was attended by more than 400 guests from the club and the local business community.

After presenting framed shirts to the club’s shirt sponsors Saltus, Natta and Specific Interiors, club chairman Geoff Robins introduced guest speaker David ‘Flats’ Flatman.

England cap ‘Flats’ is a popular TV pundit famous for his straight talking, no-nonsense opinions. These were well to the fore as he entertained the throng after lunch.

Tomorrow (Saturday), the club host the Super Sevens tournament.

Ten men’s and eight women’s teams will compete in the first of four rounds held at clubs across the south east.

The teams are a mix of specialist, semi-pro sevens outfits and national sides gaining top-flight experience in what is an Olympic sport.

This year’s national sides include Germany, Spain, Hong Kong and China.

The first game will kick off at 10.30am, with the final scheduled for the early evening.

Plans are in place for a traditional sevens tournament after-party featuring live music. Entry to the competition and party is free and open to all.
