AT every AGM, Farnham Rugby Club present special trophies to two players from the junior section.
The Jonny Wilkinson U18 Award went to Jordan Frost, a highly promising player who came through the mini/junior ranks and made his debut for the 1st XV last season.
The Phil Young U14 Award, presented in memory of Phil Young who, when chairman of the mini/junior section, died in a car accident returning from a tournament, this year went to Johnny Redford. The award goes to a player who regularly attends training and matches, sets a good example in everything they do and puts in 100 per cent effort.
Gary Stennet was named Clubman of the Year for his skillful, determined and passionate coaching over the years.
James Frost received the Keith Daniels Award, a memorial to the man who essentially launched Farnham’s academy system. This trophy goes to a person who make a major contribution to the flow of junior players through to the senior sides.
Farnham RFC are hoping to increase the size of the already spacious Monkton Lane ground.
“We are looking to purchase more land adjacent the club, so making the clubhouse the epicenter for all home playing,” said chairman Geoff Robins, answering a question from the floor. “We are having conversations with a number of parties, but it would not be useful to share details until we have some definite news.
“We are also looking at a 3G pitch on the current grounds. But with costs measured in hundreds of thousands, we don’t anticipate anything happening in the near future.”
The current officers, committee, coaching staff and skippers were re-elected at the AGM, the only change being Mark Baines taking over as 3rd XV captain following Vince Wiltshire’s retirement.
* Harlequins will be hosting their summer camp at Farnham RFC’s Monkton Lane ground on Thursday and Friday, August 11/12. The Quins’ camps are designed for ages 6-18 and cater for all abilities and sizes.
Their fully qualified and vastly experienced coaches will give youngsters the opportunity to play the ‘Harlequins Way’.
* Scottish Exiles is an organisation formed to identify and develop rugby talent among young people who qualify for Scotland and who live and play in England.
IRB regulations state that in order to play for Scotland, either the player or one of his/her parents or grandparents must be born in Scotland
The Exiles are represented at Farnham by U10s head coach David Kennedy. Anyone thinking they might qualify for Scotland has the opportunity to benefit from some additional coaching and perhaps even follow in the footsteps of former Farnham Academy player Ryan Wilson who went on to play for Glasgow Warriors and Scotland.
For more details, contact David Kennedy on 0777 023 7576.
* In typical ‘clubman’ fashion, Jordan Frost raised £1000 for charity by having his luxuriant locks shaved off at the clubhouse after the last game of the season.
