FARNHAM Rugby Club have been nominated for the men’s Team of the Year award at the Crabbie’s National Rugby Awards, following last season’s remarkable double.

Farnham won the London 3 South-West title and followed up by beating Droitwich at Twickenham to lift the national RFU Senior Vase.

“The Vase final was truly a memorable day for players, supporters and particularly the mini and junior sections who watched their heroes lift the trophy,” said club fan Clive Handy who nominated Farnham for the award.

“Former Farnham mini Jonny Wilkinson had run a coaching session for over 200 youngsters the Sunday before the big day, which added to the occasion,” he added.

Held at Twickenham Stadium on Wednesday, August 30, the National Rugby Awards will celebrate the best of English rugby, from grassroots to the very pinnacle of the game.

Former England captain Chris Robshaw is the event ambassador and congratulated all those nominated for an award.

“Whether it’s professional players, or right through to the amateur stuff, the unsung heroes, the big club men or women – both sexes are involved in these awards,” he said.

“It’s a ceremony that honours all levels, both on and off the pitch.”

The awards, which were launched in 2015, will be attended by rugby celebrities as well as England and Premiership players.

The 12 awards recognise the contribution to the game made by clubs, players, coaches, volunteers, mini sections, supporters and many more people who help make rugby the great game it is.
