FARNHAM Vets 17, Richmond Heavies 19. L’Escargot hosted Richmond Heavies at Wilkinson Way for the first time and presented the visitors with a major headache.

The home pack dished out the medicine at the scrum and a strike against the head allowed John Adams to score a pushover try.

It was a great moment for Farnham and a well-deserved return for the front five of Barney Hart, Keith Harding, Andrew Mortimore, Gavin Baker and John Adams.

Farnham were in no way one-dimensional and attacked through the backs, with Andy James and Paul Mizzi finding new life in their old legs. This produced an excellent try from Jemi Akin-Olugbade.

L’Escargot led by three tries to two going into the last five minutes, but were unable to sustain their stalwart defence and Richmond’s quick thinking and class allowed them to squeeze in under the posts and snatch victory with the conversion.

Unable to conjure up one last attack, Farnham were left to rue a missed conversion in the first half.
