PETERSFIELD duo Nick Blumlein and Caspar Hird helped Havant Under-18s to a 6-3 victory over Nottingham in a hard-fought National Colts Cup semi-final.
Playing on the Nottingham first-team pitch, the pair, both former Petersfield RFC players, played a key role in Havant’s success.
Blumlein was a rock at full-back, while inside-centre Hird made countless tackles in midfield.
The sides were locked together at 3-3 with just ten minutes remaining and it eventually all came down to Blumlein’s boot. With all eyes on him, he stepped up to nail a 50-metre penalty on the angle.
Despite a late surge from Nottingham, the defending champions, Havant held out, making hit after hit on their own line before the ball was finally turned over and put into touch.
In the final, Havant will meet Billingham at the ground of professional side Bedford Blues on Monday, May 2.
