Petersfield U16 44pts

Andover U16 26pts

IN-FORM Petersfield U16s saw off the threat of their Andover counterparts to secure the Hampshire League title.

An outstanding performance from the confident and multi-talented Petersfield squad on their home pitch saw off the visitors in no uncertain style.

After Petersfield started strongly and exerted early pressure, a well-taken interception from a speedy Andover back saw the visitors scoring early under the posts against the run of play. Unperturbed, Petersfield calmly reverted to the game plan and continued to pile on the pressure.

With all the possession from a revved up pack, the backs were able to start distributing good ball to Petersfield wings Keohane, Higson and Newton. And the pressure soon told with Higson going over in the corner after a great off load from Renwick Gray.

Higson was the recipient soon after of a superb flat pass from midfield general Kay and went over in the same corner for a well-taken try. The pack were now like men possessed and rucked and mauled Andover out of the game.

Wilde picked up a loose ball and drove five metres to score Petersfield’s third try.

After half time, Petersfield continued to play great attractive and attacking rugby and Higson again, from a fantastic off load from Joseph, really showed his speed for a brilliant 50-metre dash to the Andover line.

Now the Petersfield centres started showing their strength with Rushin and Renwick Gray sniping at Andover at every opportunity. This was soon rewarded with Renwick Gray’s feisty break and power run to score in the corner.

Petersfield’s tails were really up now and Kay dummied three times to score under posts. Wilde then popped up again to drive over from 10 metres out for another try. Not bad for a prop!

Captain Casson, not one to be left out of the party, then picked up and weaved his way through the Andover team to score under the posts.

Petersfield might then be accused of taking their foot off the gas for the last five minutes, letting Andover in three times to score before the referee blew the final whistle, but at the end Petersfield won comfortably to secure the title.
