The Bourne Club, a Farnham racquets club, recently held its 100th annual general meeting since its inception in 1923.
This AGM was the most well attended for years and it celebrated how the club grew from a small local tennis club to a dynamic multi-racquet sports and social venue for all ages.
It also saw outgoing president Steve Matthews hand over the baton to Sally Jenner, who was voted for by the members.
Sally, a tennis and pickleball enthusiast and key player in the club’s ladies doubles and mixed doubles tennis teams, has been a Bourne Club member for ten years. Her son Max, 21, has been a member since he was 11 and still enjoys playing.
She said: “It is an honour to take on the role of club president and step into the shoes of past presidents who have made such a positive impact. I am excited about the changes we are making at the club and feel privileged to work with such a diverse and talented management committee.
“We are all here to ensure our members continue to love playing their chosen racquet sport at the Bourne Club while maintaining our unique position in the area – providing a multi-racquet sports facility.”
Sally is supported by new vice-president Dan Jacobs, a member since 2021 who plays tennis, badminton, a little padel and has a huge passion for pickleball, at which he is an important member of the club’s mixed team. Dan also coached and ran a junior badminton club for six years.
He said: “Celebrating our 100th AGM is testament to the strength, spirit and community that define the Bourne Club. I am very excited to be Sally's right-hand man and to work alongside the rest of the management team and the coaches to ensure members feel proud to be part of this special club.”
