A DEPLETED Alton Runners team took part in the Gosport Half Marathon, this being the fourth race of the Hampshire Road Race League.
Although mainly dry, it was extremely windy as the runners made their way along the seafront at Lee-on-the-Solent. The two-lap out-and-back course meant that the traditional Samba band was still able to play and lift the spirits of the runners who passed it four times. Other musical entertainment and words of encouragement were provided by Radio Haslar.
First to finish for Alton Runners was Philip Scrase who recorded 1hr 33mins 12secs. Jim Armitage finished in 1-41-18, closely followed by Vanessa Lowe in 1-41-46 and Mike Sennett in 1-42-19.
Second Alton lady was Harinder Boparai in 2-02-20 and Hugh Williams managed 2-07-41.
Caroline Freeman gained valuable points for the Alton ladies’ team with 2-41-41.
