ROTHERHAM UTD 2, ALDERSHOT TN 0

ALDERSHOT Town's relegation from the Football League was confirmed in a manner entirely befitting their wretched season, with a meek and compliant defeat against promoted Rotherham at New York Stadium on Saturday.

Already praying for a footballing miracle, involving a rare away win coupled with a big loss for Barnet at Northampton, Aldershot remained resolutely rooted to the foot of League Two and never looked likely to gatecrash the Millers' party.

Compounding a worrying week of bad news off the pitch with a display which only highlighted the lack of quality and consistency on it, Aldershot's year of failure was as avoidable as it eventually became inevitable.

In hinting at major changes at the club in the coming months, manager Andy Scott delivered a suitably damning verdict: "You've got to have the mentality to want to win and to want to work hard. You've got to have a desire and a pride in your own performance, and not enough players have done enough over the season."
