WOKING 1, ALDERSHOT TOWN 2

ALDERSHOT Town completed their great escape in thrilling style at Kingfield on Easter Monday as a tumultuous derby-day victory all but confirmed their place in the Conference Premier for next season. Barring a massive swing in goal difference this weekend, Aldershot, who started the season with a 10-point deduction for going into administration, have avoided a disastrous second successive relegation that would have placed them in the Conference South alongside Farnborough and Basingstoke. Manager Andy Scott had suggested that winning at Woking to avoid the drop would be something of a fairytale, but this win, secured with just minutes remaining, felt all too real for Shots fans who again endured the full gamut of emotions in one afternoon. Ultimately, Mark Molesley's deflected 82nd-minute winner, which ironically took a crucial touch off former Shots player John Nutter on its way into the net, sparked boisterous celebrations both on the pitch and in the away end, as nearly 1,500 travelling supporters were joined by Scott's jubilant squad in acclaiming a successful conclusion to what has been a turbulent season.
