ALDERSHOT TOWN 1, FARNBOROUGH 1

(Farnborough win 5-4 on penalties)

A DERBY game that nearly got lost in the fog on Tuesday eventually saw a young Aldershot Town side knocked out of the Hampshire Senior Cup on penalties.

With referee Lee Treleaven set to abandon the game after 90 minutes, as the prospects of completing the scheduled 30 minutes of extra time disappeared beneath a ghostly blanket of freezing fog, the request from both managers to take the match straight to a shootout had to be ratified by a telephone call to Hampshire FA headquarters.

Only experienced Shots midfielder Martin Rowlands failed to convert his penalty – a weak shot hit the post – and it was Aldershot youth graduate Josh Huggins who sealed the victory for their Rushmoor rivals.
