THE first testing of the handicaps for this season’s Aldershot Table Tennis League Handicap Cup competition held up well, with some close matches being played.
An error in one player’s handicap made the task more difficult as Frimley C edged past Tennis F by 7-5. Gary Nicholson was undefeated for Frimley and Anthony Connelly supported with a double, while Charles Burton won two for Tennis.
Frimley F secured a more straightforward 7-3 victory over Cody A. Keith Russell won twice for Cody, but doubles for the trio of Gary Smith, Paul Phelan and Ted Cornell saw Frimley through.
Two first-round matches were played in the inter-divisional Bob Taylor Cup, both being won by 7-5 scorelines. Mehrdad Abutalebi claimed a maximum for the Division Three outfit, while Richard Hornby and Yuriy Shulzhenko won two apiece for the Division Four team.
In the other match, Division Two edged past Division One, thanks to a Peter Killick full house and two from George Carder. David Joyce won twice for the higher ranked side.
An outstanding Division Four KO Cup match was played, with Tennis H overcoming their J clubmates 6-3. Michael Wolfe led the way with a maximum. John Page backed him up with two and Keith Johnson took a couple for the Js.
Crawley Ridge B maintained their grip at the top of Division Three with an 8-2 victory over their A team. Phil Garrett was undefeated and Steve Bridle and David Skellern won two each.
Terry French notched up a full house and Graham Thomas supported with two as Ash E squeezed past Cody D 6-4.
Central A were 6-4 winners over Tennis B in Division One. Paul Baker and Dennis Perrett, returning from injury, both won two for Central, as did Michael Kwan for Tennis.
