THE old football adage of a game of two halves certainly rang true as Petersfield Hurricanes U8s came up against a useful Churt Tigers side in the North East Hampshire Youth League at Love Lane on Saturday.

For two of the four quarters the Hurricanes were more than a match for the visiting Tigers, for the other two the Petersfield boys fell asleep and paid the price.

In-form striker Taylor Pearce was a constant threat, netting his ninth goal of the season with a fine finish after Alex Garlant’s through ball and seeing other efforts either blocked, saved or whistle past the post.

Garlant, who glanced an attempted headed clearance into his own net, made amends in style with a solo goal after beating three players and chipping the ball over the goalkeeper for his fourth goal of the season.

And James Port got on the scoresheet for the first time this season when he latched onto a clearance, beat his marker and slid the ball beautifully under the Tigers keeper.

Port also shared goalkeeping duties with Connor Redpath and Oscar Walker, the latter busy as ever across the park who regularly linked up with his strikers.

Harry Timmons was a little unlucky to concede a second Hurricanes own goal, the ball rebounding off him after pinball in the home penalty area, but he cut again an assured figure in possession and carries a threat from the back.

And Benjamin Oru and Finlay Stafferton put in a shift at the back, making tackles and trying to get forward.
