IT was a successful finale to the Hampshire Road Race League series for Farnham Runners. Sarah Hill was confirmed as individual women’s champion and the men’s A team clinched top spot in Division Two.
The men’s B and the women’s A and B teams all held position in their respective divisions.
The final meeting was the D Day 10k, promoted by City of Portsmouth AC, and despite the warm weather and a twisty, partly gravelled route, some personal best times were recorded.
With promotion already assured, the men’s A came fifth out of ten teams on the day. James Clarke, who has finished an impressive 32nd in the men’s individual table, led them in with all the 38s – a time of 38mins 38secs for 38th place.
Stuart Haig clocked his first sub-40 time, 39-31, to come 55th (9th M40) out of the 522 finishers. Mike Walberton recorded 40-24 (3rd M55) and Mike Anderson 40-57 (4th M40).
The B team of Alistair Hardaway (43-06), Keith Marshall (PB 43-31), Neil Ambrose (43-46) and Peter Chapman (46-07) came ninth out of 15 on the day for a final seventh place in B Division One.
Chris Cramp suffered in the heat to record 47-14 and was disappointed not to be supported for a C team who will remain in B Division Two, finishing seventh out of 17 teams.
The June sun also took its toll on the ladies. Eloise Stradling had to settle for 47-24, Jane Georghiou for 48-10 (1st W60) and Tara Hunt for 50-39, placing them sixth in the race and sixth out of ten teams on aggregate.
Tina Harrison was the lone runner in support, recording 51-05. The B team finished sixth out of 14 and as some of the 12 races have been well supported, the club plan to enter a C team next season.
Other Farnham individual placings for the series: men – Stuart Morel 37th, Stuart Haig 61st, Mike Walberton 70th, John Phillips 86th, Alistair Hardaway 97th; women – Eloise Stradling 21st, Jane Georghiou 28th, Tina Harrison 53rd, Tara Hunt 58th.
Tina Harrison is one of only 17 runners from the ten clubs who completed all 12 races of the league season.
A Farnham Runners squad recorded some excellent times in the Edinburgh Marathon, helped by perfect conditions.
Sarah Hill finished a superb eighth out of 2,319 in the women’s race, recording a splendid 2hrs 56mins 05secs. It was the ninth time she has broken three hours. She was also second in the F40 category, with only former international runner Hayley Haining ahead of her.
Three Farnham members sliced large chunks off their personal best times: Gerald Wyatt 3-14-46, John Phillips 3-16-00, Jeremy Skedge 3-28-07.
Ian Marshall returned 3-21-49 on his club debut, while marathon first-timers Tim Farrant and Paul Day managed 3-39-34 and 3-56-02 respectively.
