SHOWING the bike form that has helped them qualify for the ITU World Championships in Rotterdam in September, Farnham Triathlon Club members Dom Brooks and James Long took first and second in the Alton CC/Owens Cycles 10-mile time trial last Thursday.

Both are regular visitors to the A31 H10/8 course. Brooks’ winning time was 21mins 21secs and Long was delighted with his 21-38 as it beat his previous personal best by three seconds.

Andover Wheelers rider Chris Cain finished third with the only other sub 22-minute mark, 21-48.

Iain Cotton was once again best Alton rider with 23-29, followed by clubmates Keith Parrish (24-44) and Gary Hodgson (28-54).

With Charlie Williams away on holiday, Cotton took the opportunity to strengthen his lead at the head of the Alton Club handicap points table, with only three weeks of racing to come.

Dick Weatherbed did the time-keeping, helped by Jim Woods, and Eddy Stevens did the pushing-off.

It was déjà vu again as Iain Cotton pipped club rival Shaun Blow for best Alton time by exactly three seconds for the third time in a row.

This was in the Alton CC/Owens Cycles weekly time trial on July 13.

There has rarely been much between the Alton duo and the difference between Cotton’s 23-14 and Blow’s 23-17 repeated the gaps recorded in the previous two 10-mile events.

Best time on the night went to unattached rider Keir O’Donnell with his 20-47. Andover Wheelers’ Chris Cain made his second appearance in Alton’s summer series and was again second fastest, this time with 21-52.

Pete Younghusband of Petersfield Tri Club was third with 21-54.

Charlie Williams of Alton clocked 24-40 – his best time of the season – and Keith Parrish made up the quartet of Alton riders with 25-10.

Alan Jacob and Dick Weatherbed held the watches with help from Mike Hayward, and Eddy Stevens was pusher-off.
