FIVE players who took up floorball in Farnham, and now play for local team Southern Vipers, competed in the World Floorball Cup qualifiers in Poland during February.

Andrew Field, Chris Gladney, Roope Rantala, Peter Halket and Jonny Daines were all picked for Great Britain who had the misfortune to be placed in the same group as Switzerland whose team included some professionals.

However, GB’s brave performances against Switzerland, Spain, Poland and Germany earned praise from the pundits.

Andrew Field was named man of the match against Switzerland out of the squad of 20 players from England and Scotland.

Floorball hockey is played at Farnham Sports Centre on Saturday afternoons and new players are welcome to try out one of the world’s fastest growing sports. It is now played in 58 countries.

Nine teams from seven schools took part in the 2016 Farnham Floorball Cup at Farnham Sports Centre.
