WHEN Waverley councillor Stefan Reynolds’ house in Red House Lane, Elstead, was burgled on the May 7 bank holiday Monday, he was left with a feeling of “surprise”.

At around 2pm that day, Stefan, councillor for Godalming Charterhouse since 2011, left the pub where he had met a friend. But, on his return home and about half a mile from his house, he drove past his other car - a blue Audi S4.

He said: “My immediate thought was to wonder who had borrowed it, closely followed by the realisation that it had been stolen from my house.

“After briefly trying to give chase, I called 999 and spoke to the police, who by the end of the call had also had a report about the car, probably because it was being driven at great speed.

“I returned home to find that my house had been broken into, but apart from some cash and the car, nothing else had been taken and there was thankfully no damage.”

A Surrey Police spokesperson confirmed the vehicle had been “located and recovered by officers near Newton Road, Liphook” later that day.

They added: “A 17-year-old boy was arrested, and has been released under investigation.”

Police are also now appealing for the identity of the man pictured in the above CCTV images as part of an investigation into a burglary at an elderly couple’s Dockenfield home, as reported in last week’s Herald.

A man knocked on the couple’s front door at 1am on Monday, May 14, before pushing his way in. He punched the woman, in her 70s, in the face and hit the man, in his 80s, with a crowbar, then demanded money from their safe. He fled the scene with a sum of money, including Euros.

The couple were taken to Frimley Park Hospital for their injuries but have since been discharged.

The suspect was described as white, in his early 20s, between 5’8” and 6’ tall, and well-spoken. He had his face covered and was wearing gloves.

Several other homes and garages have been targeted by thieves across Farnham and its surrounding area in recent weeks.

A four-bedroom home in Folly Lane South was ransacked in broad daylight on Friday, May 11, after thieves forced open the home’s UPVC front door sometime between 1.30pm and 2.30pm and made off with a haul of jewellery.

This was followed by another burglary between 2pm and 10pm on Tuesday, May 15, when thieves smashed the rear window of a home in Old Frensham Road while its owners were away on holiday, trashed multiple rooms and forced open the rear patio door to make their escape.

Elsewhere, four bundles of copper tubing were stolen from a property in Crooksbury Road overnight on May 9/10, a pedal bike was stolen in Sandrock Hill Road on either May 3 or 4, while thieves also tried but failed to force entry to a property in Greenfield Road on May 15.

Attempts were also made to force entry to a garage in Middle Bourne Lane sometime between May 2 and 10, and a cabin in Vicarage Lane between May 8 and 11.
