FARNHAM Sixth Form College continues to shine, with this year's A-level results showing yet another 97 per cent overall pass rate. In 20 of the A-level subjects, the pass rate at Farnham was 100 per cent.  Vice-principal Sally MacPherson was delighted by this year's results. "This success shows that Farnham's friendly student-centred approach and high standard of teaching is producing consistently high performance across all subject areas – exemplifying our commitment to empowering students to 'Achieve More'." Farnham has now achieved a 97 per cent overall pass rate for five years in succession, and also for the fifth time, this year, the high grade (A-C) pass rate was more than 70 per cent.  Strong performances were shown in all subjects but achievement levels were particularly high in art, design technology, drama, business studies, English literature, maths, media studies, psychology, history and law. In addition to its A-level achievements, the college also produced impressive results in its vocational BTEC courses, including health studies, performing arts and ICT, showing that it continues to provide a diverse range of learning opportunities to develop young people's skills and talents in a huge variety of subjects. Students were back at the college last Thursday to collect their results. For some of them, university now beckons. Joshua Hedgman, for example, achieved four A grades – English literature, geography, history and law – and with these results he has been accepted at Oxford, where he will read law. Commenting on Josh's achievement, Farnham's head of law, Peter Emerton, said: "I am very proud of Josh's success and believe he will make a fantastic lawyer." Laura Walters, who obtained A grades in English language, English literature, sociology and grade B in history, was "elated" to see how well she had done, adding that her time at Farnham "prepared me for university in every way and provided me with the motivation to succeed." She is now off to Bristol University to read politics.  Budding young entrepreneur Fergus Simpson achieved three A grades – economics, business studies and geography – and goes on from Farnham to read economics and geography at Leeds University, after which he plans to go into business. Young scientist Anthony Thomas is going to Nottingham University to read mechanical engineering after achieving four A-levels including A grades in physics and maths. Emma Gale was "really happy" to achieve an A grade in maths, a B in further maths, B in geography, and a B in physics.  She "thoroughly enjoyed" her time at Farnham College, which she said had "a fantastic friendly atmosphere." Now she's off to Reading University to study meteorology, with a year in Oklahoma. "It is always a pleasure to see our students achieve the results that they deserved through their application over two years," said Terry Horner, student services manager. "It's marvellous to see the look of relief as they receive their exam results and the sudden realisation of the fact that in a month's time they will be starting their chosen university courses." There were some equally outstanding AS exam results, which are taken by students at the end of their first year. Harriet Still achieved four grade As and one grade B, Sam Stanton and Sam Wreford achieved three grade As and one grade B each, Sak Choudhury achieved four grade As and one grade B. Fred Carter, assistant principal for curriculum and quality, said: "Students at Farnham College consistently achieve more than their prior attainment indicates they should, and once again we are delighted to see so many happy faces. The hard work on their part and the dedication of their teachers has been well rewarded."
