STRONG objections to a proposal to fell three oak trees as part of a road maintenance scheme at the A3 in Liphook have forced the Highways Agency to rethink its plans this week.

The scheme, which involved removing some of the trees in the central reservation to widen the southbound carriageway of the A3 between the Little Chef restaurant and Bramshott Chase, has been shelved following meetings between the Highways Agency and representatives from Liphook Parish Council, East Hampshire District Council and English Nature.
