POLICE in Alton are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died in a crash on the A31 between Four Marks and Chawton.
Named as Stephen Turner, 61, of Thorpe Gardens, Alton, the cyclist was riding down the dual-carriageway toward Alton at around 5.45pm on November 18 when the accident happened.
Mr Turner was in collision with a black Peugeot 207, travelling in the same direction on the eastbound carriageway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 62-year-old driver of the Peugeot was taken to North Hampshire Hospital at Basingstoke for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The road was closed in both directions for five hours for recovery of the vehicle and for an investigation to take place.
Officers are currently supporting Mr Turner’s next of kin and investigations into the exact circumstances of the incident are ongoing, according to the police.
The police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who saw the car or the cyclist before the collision took place, to contact Sergeant Jim Chapman of Havant Police on 101, quoting Operation Octagon.
