AT his final meeting as chairman of Greatham Parish Council, Alan Bridgman clashed with the man he accused of causing four of "the most active and competent" councillors not to stand again.

At first he did not name the man, but councillor Don Jerrard interrupted him, saying he had no right to make "a political statement" as the item was not on the agenda.
