The number of youth players and trialists on show in Aldershot's first pre-season outings on Saturday and Tuesday made viewing somewhat confusing for supporters.
But Terry Brown is expected to pare down his first-team squad into something manageable over the next few days.
And the manager made another move on Tuesday when he completed the signing of Lee Charles on a two-year contract.
The striker, a long-time target of Aldershot, has played two seasons for Nuneaton Borough in the Conference and was previously with QPR.
A proven goal-scorer, he should go some way towards filling the gaps left by the departures of Stafford Browne and Grant Payne.
Terry Brown said: "Lee is a quality forward with a great touch and has an impressive goal scoring record. I am delighted to have secured his services."
Aldershot continued their promising start to the pre-season programme with a 4-2 win at Yeading on Tuesday night. Goals came from defenders, midfielders and forwards, with Jason Cousins, Phil Gray, Roscoe D'Sane and Mark Nicholls all on target.
Jason Tucker, a former Aldershot player, made the score more respectable by converting two late penalties for Yeading.
This followed Aldershot's success in the Kingstonian Tournament last weekend. After beating Brentford 1-0 on Saturday with a goal from D'Sane, Aldershot defeated the host side on Sunday in a penalty shoot-out, the score having been 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Nicholls, Adam Parker, Byron Bubb and Mark Watson scored their penalties, but the Ks missed their fourth and it was left to skipper and youth coach Martin Kuhl to clinch victory with a cunning spot kick.
Aldershot's day was only marred by a serious injury to David Howells, the former Tottenham star who played for Hartley Wintney last season. Having a trial game with Aldershot, Howells was sent crashing by a heavy tackle and suffered a broken fibula and chipped tibia.
Aldershot continue their build-up with a trip to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday.
