THE rain stayed away for Wrecclesham fete on Sunday, June 26, as families flocked to the village recreation ground for an afternoon of fun games and activities.

Farnham Brass Band kicked off proceedings and the day went into full swing with a flower show and children’s vegetable competition, while a multitude of stalls bedecked in bunting raised lots of money for their respective charities and commercial ventures.

The UNKANHOP band and Knickerbocker Glory dancers performed throughout the afternoon, and donkey rides, splat the rat, beat the goalie, a coconut shy, various rides and an ice cream van all proved popular.

Other highlights were the ever-popular dog show and the unveiling of the ‘Silver’ Billy Beldam pub sign by fellow ex-England international cricketer Graham Thorpe.

Gail Whattingham, who helped organise this year’s fete, said: “Thank you to the ATC 229 Squadron who were so efficient and so much help this year. Thank you also to all those who supported the event, which went into the evening with the music of the Micky Kemp band.

“Next year our plans are to get the fete sponsored, so any businesses or individuals who may be interested please call me on 07702503383.”
