PUPILS at St Peter’s CofE Primary School in Wrecclesham had a fun and informative start back from half term on Tuesday, with years five and six taking part in the school’s fifth annual CPR Day.

The day started with a whole school assembly, dealing with the importance of knowing what to do in an emergency, followed by hour-long sessions for years five and six, which included lots of practical, hands on experience.

The children enjoyed putting each other in the recovery position and the year six pupils were very enthusiastic about performing CPR on manikins.

The course was delivered by Peter Glover from the South East Coast Ambulance service, supported by Keith Aston and Joanna Michaelides from Heartstart Farnham Lions.

St Peter’s is currently the only school in the area that has committed to regularly teaching pupils these important life saving skills.

Joanna commented: “It’s fantastic that the school and in particular the head Sarah Dunning are so supportive of this yearly event.

“Teaching children what to do from an early age gives them the confidence to act in an emergency, and they become competent surprisingly quickly. Well done St Peter’s.”

The school recently became a PAD site, meaning a public access defibrillator is attached to the main gates for use by the whole community, 24/7.
