Plans to slash parking in Holybourne’s main road could threaten the village school, claims its chair of governors.

Developer Redbrown wants to build 156 homes on land behind 136-150 London Road and has proposed a 20mph speed limit plus 62 parking spaces to improve traffic flow.

This would make it considerably more difficult for parents to drop off and pick up at Andrews’ Endowed CE Primary School, despite Redbrown’s plan for 10 park and stride car park spaces.

Residents surveying this stretch of London Road said it currently had enough parking space for 195 cars.

Chair of governors Bryn Jones said: “We believe the developer’s highways proposals, as they currently stand, represent a significant risk to the school’s future.

“We believe they have been developed without sufficient information or any meaningful consultation with the school, and their plans rely on incomplete data and wholly unrealistic behavioural change assumptions which are simply not grounded in evidence.”

Paul Basham Associates’ parking survey for Redbrown took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, when there were no events at the cricket ground, Holybourne Theatre, Kingdom Hall, Village Hall or Church of the Holy Rood.

Daniel Gee, a parent of an Andrews’ Endowed pupil, said: “I think the key message is that many working parents have no choice but to drive their children to school.

“It’s not a lifestyle choice, it’s necessity, and so our authorities must take current travel behaviours into consideration as these will not suddenly change because fewer parking spaces are available.

“Parents will be forced to find alternatives - whether parking illegally, or in nearby residential streets, which are already overloaded at drop-off and pick-up.

“There are existing safety concerns outside the school - the lollipop man has had several near-misses - so there is naturally a concern these could get worse.”
