MONEY raised from the sale of carrier bags at Tesco in Bordon has benefited community projects.

Tesco community champion Fiona Edwards said the Tesco Bags of Help scheme takes the 5p charge for plastic carrier bags and puts it towards grants of £8,000, £10,000 and £12,000, which people can apply for to fund community projects.

The recent winner of the £12,000 bid was Woodlands Hall, in Headley Down, for a land-clearing project, delivered by East Hampshire District Council, which aims to welcome wildlife back to a rejuvenated area.

The £10,000 was granted to Four Marks Parish Council for a teenager activity area at the recreation ground and the £8,000 went toward a sensory and eco garden at Greatham Primary School.

The next round of applications is open until June 3, and details can be found at
