WHITEHILL Town Council was delighted to learn on Monday that its request to Hampshire County Council for funding to improve the street lighting on Chalet Hill has been accepted.

The town council decided to make its bid for street lighting funding back in November, following a meeting of the planning and amenities committee.

At the time, chairman of the committee Basil Smith said: ÒForest Road and Chalet Hill should be our priority as they are not very well lit. The junction at Hogmoor Road and the roundabout next to the golf club in Firgrove Road have also got a problem with street lighting, though.Ó

It is not clear exactly when the work will be carried out, but the project is in the county council budget for 2002/2003.

The work will be carried outcby the county council, and 50 per cent of the costs will be met by the county on completion of the work.
