THE village of Headley was awash with runners as the annual Headley Fun Run got off to a flying start on Monday. The five-mile dash, which is now in its 22nd year, attracted more than 160 runners. Organiser Lizzie Miller said: "The run went like clockwork. "There were a lot of people taking part, including a number of families and that was lovely to see. "We were lucky with the weather - the day started off miserably, but for the run itself, it was bright and sunny. It was perfect." The run begins at Headley Sports Pavilion and tracks around the back of the village to Ludshott Common. Mrs Miller added: "It's an interesting race - there's a nasty incline at Furze Hill, but the section through Ludshott Common is really enjoyable because it's so pretty. "There's something for everyone really, whether you just want to take part for fun or to compete. "We were pleased to see so many people there, but next year we hope for even more runners. "It is a truly village family event and all the helpers are volunteers so it creates a great community spirit. The event has been running since 1986 so it is well established." The fun run is a not-for-profit event, but any surplus money raised from the race will be donated to the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice in Farnham and the Naomi House Children's Hospice in Sutton Scotney.
