THE World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support took place last Friday (September 28) with schools and businesses across the Farnham area raising a cuppa to the cause.

Employees at the Herald got involved by holding a two-day bake sale, with everything from a cinnamon cake to Smarties cookies, a chocolate and cherry cake and sausage rolls.

The team holds a coffee morning every year for Macmillan and this year managed to raise £287.

Year two children at St John’s Infant School, Churt, were hosts and hostesses at the school’s first Macmillan coffee morning.

As well as baking, they served goodies to members of the community before putting their maths skills into practice by doing some counting. The school raised £355.66 for the charity.

Gillian Morris, headteacher, said: “Here at St John’s we are very fortunate indeed to have not only such amazing parents who are always so generous, but the local community to whom we are equally grateful for their generosity and continued support.”

A further £267.50 was raised by senior pupils at St Nicholas’ School, Church Crookham, when they sold cakes and hot chocolate.

Year 11 pupils raised awareness of the day by presenting a special assembly about the charity in a range of languages, also marking the European Day of Languages.

Valerie MacFarlane Travers organised the event and said: “It was great fun to yet again support the Macmillan Coffee Morning in our own special way, with a cup of hot chocolate and a piece of cake at break time. The year 11 girls enjoyed serving the hot chocolate with highly creative toppings!”

Frensham Village Shop has hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning every year since 1996 and this year was no exception.

Held at Frensham Cricket Club, the cake sale raised more than £1,000, taking the grand total of money raised over the years to more than £18,000. Sue Wicks gave a special thank you to the team of helpers.
