AN Elstead-based prosthesis clinic has fitted the first UK amputee with the world's most advanced bionic leg, enabling him to stand naturally, walk up and down stairs, run, ski and cycle.
At 15 years old Matthew Newbury lost his leg and sustained multiple life-threatening injuries when the motorbike he was a passenger on was hit by a 4x4.
Now 30, and despite being a succesful property developer, he has never been able to live a normal life - feeling exhausted every evening after work and unable to have a proper social life.
But last week he visited ProActive Prosthetics in Tanshire Park, Elstead, to become the first patient in the UK to receive a new, state-of-the-art bionic prosthetic system called The Genium.
