MEDSTEAD Primary School had great fun celebrating all things book-related last week.

Children were invited to bring in a much-loved book for the day and dress up as some of their favourite characters.

Even the teachers got involved in the fun, which featured everything from Bear Grylls and Roald Dahl’s Matilda to Where’s Wally?

As part of the event, the school hall was transformed into a colourful set from Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book for all the children to enjoy a live performance of the classic book and film.

Other highlights of the day included all the children featuring in a special school assembly parade.

Headteacher Jane Oborn said: “The day was truly inspirational, helping immerse our children in the wonderful world of books and inspiring their imaginations.

“They came to school in character so their play and conversations throughout the day revolved around books.

“The Jungle Book show took the children into another world and showed them how powerful books can be when recreated as a play or a film.

Teachers and children alike all thoroughly enjoyed the day and I’m so grateful to all the parents for bringing this day to life with all their amazing home-made costumes.”

Medstead year four teacher Jade Gregory and one of her pupils, Ellie Voice, captured the enthusiasm of the day by dressing up as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz.
