THE Downing Street Charity Shop, which raises funds each month for a different cause, presented a cheque of £1,000 to David Lambert, chairman of The Williams Club.

The Williams Club has been established for 50 years and provides the opportunity every month for people in Farnham with sight loss to get together for entertainment, socialising and outings.

Entertainment includes music and song, quizzes and talks and a delicious tea provided by local churches and community groups, including the Farnham WI group.

In the past members have been treated to performances by Rowledge Community Choir and a number of school choirs.

Over the course of the year there will be outings and a pub lunch – which will be taking place in June at The Princess Royal in Runfold. For those in need of transport this can be arranged within the Farnham area.

Chairman David Lambert said: “This donation helps us enormously, as we don’t charge for our membership we rely on these donations and it was a very generous donation. We are so grateful for it.

“Other charities from time to time make grants to us, as well as donations from members and their family and friends. We make sure that we have a speaker who is best suited for our members and can speak well with the use of visual aid.

“We have an outing to Bognor Regis in July. The members always look forward to these trips and this year we will be staying in a very nice hotel on the beach front, which was loved by members on last year’s trip.”

New members are always welcome and members are happy to come out and talk to anyone who is interested in joining. They meet on the third Monday of every month, excluding August, starting from 2.15pm until 4pm in the Gostrey Community Centre in Brightwells Road, Farnham.
