The Bourne made it two wins in a row after performing the notable feat of dismissing Headley in less than 40 overs.

The home team batted out the full 48 overs for a creditable total of 157-9. Openers Chant and Croucher gave Bourne a bright start, Siebert batted well in the middle order, and an explosive 34 from Bowden gave the innings late impetus. Potton was again the pick of the Headley bowlers.

Headley's powerful top order all made runs, but no-one could play a major innings, and when Dave Cook was run out by Sale's direct hit, the visitors just collapsed. They were within nine runs of a winning draw when Rooke snapped up the last two wickets. Skipper Matt Crawley recorded fine figures of 4 for 29 in 11 overs.

Elstead were again let down by their batsmen. Put in by Fernhurst, they were bowled out for 93. Crutcher and Colin Druce threatened briefly, but then fell to the tight bowling of Ingrams who bowled unchanged for his 4 for 38 in 23 overs.

The pace of Nick Diacon and Matt Murphy had Fernhurst reeling at 14-5. But Howe and Tremlett (47 not out) halted the slide with a fine partnership and the visitors got home without further loss.

Puttenham claimed a notable scalp for their first win in division one. Winning an important toss, the visitors took full advantage of the helpful conditions and bowled Tilford out for 95, with Paul Crouch and Tony Champneys taking four very economical wickets apiece. Only a very disciplined 30 not out by Noel Hume gave his side something to bowl at.

But, with the exception of Martyn, Tilford could never maintain the same accuracy and good innings from Kelly and John Crouch saw Puttenham to a comfortable win.

On a day dominated by bowlers, Frensham struggled for runs as Lambert and Lee picked up early wickets for Lindford. Harrison dug in and played the anchor role, while Kohler took a positive approach in an important partnership of 60. Lee bowled Kohler and then Lambert and Hogan picked up wickets at regular intervals. However, Frensham's 183-9 from 44 overs looked a good score in the conditions.

Hall and Keddle looked confident for the visitors, but the introduction of the experienced Senior and Clarke put a stranglehold on the batsmen and wickets started to fall. At 73-7, Lindford were in big trouble and Coldicott and Sherman soon mopped up the tail. Senior returned the excellent figures of 3 for 4 from seven overs.

The Grayshott wicket was slow and low, but Wheble set off in his customary manner, striking boundaries from the first over. Coleshill also took a shine to some loose early bowling by Dogmersfield and the openers put on 91 before Wheble fell for 57. Smith then found a good line, which became even better during his spell of 20 consecutive overs. He picked up three wickets, including that of Baker who guided Grayshott through a mini collapse. The home side were able to declare after 40 overs on 186. Andrews bagged five wickets from 12 overs of tempting spinners.

Some magnificent deliveries from Lindsey Clark quickly reduced Dogmersfield to a sorry 8-5. The young paceman had to be removed from the attack after six overs (ICC rules) and Whitley took over as wicket-taker, while Sobey and Lang kept the runs down. Karston Waller, playing his first game for Grayshott, took two great catches at mid-off.

Wood constructed a good 25 and was last man out as Lindsey Clark returned to clean up the tail, finishing with 6 for 11 from eight overs. Grayshott have made their intentions clear for 2001: runners-up is not good enough.
