CUSTOMERS will have to go elsewhere if they wish to post letters outside Farnham post office’s opening hours, after both post boxes were boarded up this week.

A Royal Mail spokesman has confirmed the postbox outside the post office, located in West Street, “has been closed due to damage”.

“We apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused and in the meantime mail is accepted over the post office counter until 5pm,” the spokesman continued.

“To help further, we are also looking into getting an internal box installed inside the post office. There are two postboxes nearby on Downing Street and South Street.”

It comes ahead of a six-week consultation on the branch’s relocation, as promised by the Post Office last November.

A Post Office spokesman said it expects the consultation to start “within the next month or so”.

The Farnham branch is one of as many as 40 branches nationwide which could close and relocate to a WHSmith store, as previously reported in the Herald.

Planned relocations are said to support the long-term sustainability of Post Office branches and bring longer opening hours.
