FARNHAM Cycle Campaign has submitted a bid for 88 new cycle parking spaces in six locations across Farnham – with written endorsements from 32 local businesses.

However, the campaigners have been told they must now wait until the first half of next year to discover if the Waverley Borough Council money from the Community Infrastructure Levy will be awarded to this project.

The news comes after the campaign marked World Car Free Day 2020 on September 22, which encouraged the public to try replacing the car with a bike or simply to walk to see if they can reduce pollution, save money, stay healthy and hopefully discover that, in many cases, it can be quicker to cycle or walk short journeys than drive.

Members of Farnham Cycle Campaign often take daily journeys by bike but tried out some new options on Tuesday.

Drummer coach John Overton cycled all the way to Guildford to give a lesson via an off-road route.

Peter Goodman and his partner travelled from central Farnham to Sainsbury’s Water Lane along the picturesque Weyside Greenway, which runs along Borelli Walk and past the tennis courts on the banks of the Wey.

As it was a weekly shop they took the FCC ebike demonstrator and the trailer – which carried it all comfortably.

As a result almost all of the journey was off-road. The demonstrator was donated by a local Surrey county councillor to allow members of the public to see how easy it is to cancel out hills at the touch of a button on the handlebars, and the trailer is designed to carry two young children if needed.
