CHAWTON spring fayre again proved a huge success for community members who packed the village hall last Saturday to enjoy an afternoon of browsing and buying from a large variety of stalls.

Held in aid of St Nicholas Church, the event was organised by a committee headed by Pam Watts.

There was plenty to see and do, with a prize-packed tombola and games such as Tinny Dipping, in which tins containing prizes could be chosen on the successful turn of a card.

Top prizes in the raffle were dinner for two at the The Greyfriars pub and entry to Jane Austen’s House for four people.

The produce, plant and homemade cake stalls proved popular and most were sold out at the end of the busy afternoon.

The total raised, which will be put toward the maintenance costs of the historic parish church, was yet to be announced but it is hoped it will top last year’s £300.
